Manet: Jeanne - 1000pc Jigsaw Puzzle by Pomegranate
Édouard Manet (French, 1832–1883) Jeanne (Spring), 1881
Actress Jeanne Demarsy is an allegory for spring—young and fresh, clad in florals, her air delicate and light. Édouard Manet planned this painting as the first of a series depicting the four seasons as portraits of Parisian women. Showing at the 1882 Paris Salon, the painting was met with great acclaim: Demarsy was called “a butterfly of the boulevards” and Manet was said to have arrived. But the artist had been ailing, and his death the following year left Jeanne (Spring) as the only finished work in the series. It remains lauded as Manet at his best, exemplary of the painter’s groundbreaking style. 1,000 piece puzzle.
